1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It can be a bit difficult to test since there are various connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. Look for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.
I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump of the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
